Backgrounder
The National Seniors' Forum on Research will be held in Ottawa on May 5-6, 2003 to educate aging Canadians about the recent trends in research on aging. The Forum will also discuss CIHR's Institute of Aging's strategic research directions; the role of older people on peer review panels and ethic review boards; the role of informed consent of older people to participate in health research; and gaps that exist between research and policy.
In exchange, representatives from older persons' organizations throughout the country will help to identify gaps and concerns in research on aging, as well indicate what type of involvement their organisations currently have in research and wish for in the future.
Approximately 100 representatives from provincial, territorial and national seniors' organisations, government officials and researchers are expected to attend.
This event is organised in partnership with:
The Canadian Association on Gerontology,
Health Canada (Division of Seniors),
The Charles E. Frosst Foundation for Health Care,
The National Advisory Council on Aging (NACA),
The National Congress of Senior's Organisations and
The Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee of Officials (Seniors).
