The Health Research Partnership Fund (HRPF) is CIHR's primary vehicle for fostering partnership opportunities with small not-for-profit agencies to support training awards in specific targeted areas of health research. Partner organizations identify the area(s) of health research relevant to their mission, strategic direction or interest and CIHR provides an internationally recognized peer-review process and administrative program support.
CIHR will fully fund all research scoring above its regular funding threshold. CIHR and the partners will pay for meritorious awards identified by the partner as relevant to their research area and scoring below the CIHR funding threshold but above merit cut-off (3.5). Only the awards above the CIHR funding threshold will count towards CIHR's contribution to the partnership. All the awards above and below the CIHR funding threshold will hold both the name of the partner and CIHR.
The following training programs are offered under the HRPF:
Applicants should review the General Guidelines for All Research Training Awards as well as the CIHR Doctoral Research Awards and/or Fellowships program descriptions. Both are found within the CIHR Research Personnel Awards Guidelines.
Eligibility criteria for all CIHR research funding (grant) programs apply. The business office of the institution of an eligible Nominated Principal Applicant general administers CIHR funds. Please refer to the General Grants and Awards Policies under CIHR's Grants and Awards Guides on the CIHR website, regarding the eligibility requirements for individuals and institutions.
Candidates must:
All conditions, as specified in CIHR's General Grants and Awards Policies shall apply to grants funded through this initiative. Conditions cover areas such as Applicant and Institutional Responsabilities, Ethic, Official Language Policy, Access to Information and Privacy Acts, and Acknowledgement of CIHR Support. Successful applicants will be informed of any special financial conditions prior to the release of funds or when they receive CIHR's Authorization for Funding (AFF) document.
Unless otherwise stipulated as a special condition, the period of support is based on the general guidelines for CIHR training programs (unless otherwise stated by the partner) and on peer review recommendations. The value of the award will be in accordance with the regular CIHR stipends.
If, at any time during the tenure of the award, the supervisor feels that the progress of the trainee is not satisfactory, the CIHR and/or the partner must be notified immediately in writing.
Applications are to be submitted to CIHR using the appropriate application modules which are available on the CIHR website. To ensure that the application is forwarded to the appropriate CIHR staff, in the Program section of the CIHR Training Module Webform (page 3 of the PDF form), check off the box beside "Partnership Program" and in the space provided indicate the appropriate partnership (i.e. Organization X/CIHR partnership). CIHR will forward a copy of the application directly to the Partner.
Applicants should review the application guidelines in the Grants and Awards Guide available on CIHR's website.
Applications will be reviewed by both CIHR and the Partner. The Partner will determine the relevance of the candidates' research objectives to the Partners' stated research interests. Applications will be peer reviewed, in accordance with CIHR's peer review process, in terms of scientific standards. Successful candidates will be selected and approved by both the Partner and CIHR..
