CIHR Knowledge Translation Awards

The CIHR Knowledge Translation Award honours and supports teams or organizations that make an outstanding contribution to the health of Canadians or to the health system through exemplary knowledge translation. The aim of the award is to recognize excellence in knowledge translation, and to provide financial support to further foster excellence in knowledge translation in Canada.

The CIHR Knowledge Translation Award consists of a certificate of recognition and a grant of $100,000 for achievements with an impact at a national or international level.

What is "Knowledge Translation"?

CIHR defines knowledge translation as "the exchange, synthesis, and ethically-sound application of knowledge - within a complex set of interactions among researchers and users - to accelerate the capture of the benefits of research for Canadians through improved health, more effective services and products, and a strengthened health care system."

Knowledge translation strategies and activities vary according to the type of research to be translated (e.g., biomedical, clinical, health services and policy, and population and public health), and the intended user audience (e.g., primary users of research may be other researchers, front-line practitioners, health system managers, policy-makers, or the general public).

Who is Eligible?

Eligible candidates for the CIHR Knowledge Translation Award are teams or organizations working in Canada in the health field on knowledge translation activities related to research into the mechanics of knowledge translation (for example, implementation research, evaluation research, technology assessment, research into behavioural and organizational change, measurement and other methodological advances in knowledge translation research) or evidence-based translation of knowledge (for example, knowledge dissemination, technology transfer, knowledge management, knowledge utilization, synthesis of research results within a global context, development and application of consensus guidelines).
