Proof of Principle Grants - "Letter of Intent" Phase Instructions

Note 1: Letters of Intent are not submitted through ResearchNet.

Note 2: Letters of Intent should be prepared and submitted by the Nominated Principal Applicant in cooperation with the Technology Transfer Office or equivalent of an eligible CIHR institution.

A Letter of Intent must include:

  1. Cover page:
    • including:
      • whether the application is a Phase I or II,
      • the title of the proposal,
      • the amount requested from CIHR,
      • the name and contact information (full address, e-mail and phone number) of the Principal Applicant(s), co-applicant(s) and the Technology Transfer Office Director (or equivalent) of the lead academic institution.
    • For Phase II applications, indicate the name of the partner, their contact information and their intended contribution.
    • This page must be signed by both the Nominated Principal Applicant and the Director of the Technology Transfer Office (or equivalent).

  2. Summary of the proposal (suitable for a multidisciplinary scientific audience).
    • In one page, describe the research project, the stage of the Intellectual Property, specifically, what the novel invention is, how it will be commercialized, and why you think your application would fit within the Proof of Principle program.

  3. The Proof of Principle questionnaire [ PDF-Fillable (125 KB) | PDF (13 KB) | Help ] completed in collaboration with the Technology Transfer Office (or equivalent) of the lead academic institution.

An acknowledgement confirming the receipt of the Letter of Intent will be sent via e-mail to both the Nominated Principal Investigator and the Technology Transfer Office.

Mail the original and 3 copies of your Letter of Intent to:
