Results of the March 2005 "International Collaborative Indigenous Health Research Partnership on Resilience" (ICIHRP) Request for Application

Year 2005 Decisions

CIHR's Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health (IAPH), in partnership with CIHR's Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) and CIHR's Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) are pleased to announce the results of the competition under the strategic initiative "International Collaborative Indigenous Health Research Partnership on Resilience (ICIHRP)".

The specific objectives of this request are to:

  • Build on existing networks of researchers, and further develop research of Indigenous peoples' health in a particular health area; and
  • improve health for Indigenous peoples through cross-country, multi disciplinary and multi-sectoral research focused on the factors and processes that promote resilience.

The main focus of the ICIHRP is "resiliency". Resiliency was chosen as a broad theme as it covers all spheres of the life cycle from child and maternal health, adolescence to healthy ageing. Resiliency can be applied to identify intervention points at various stages of life and/or specific health issues to Indigenous peoples.

There were 13 Expressions of Interest (EOI) received in August 2004 and 8 applicants were invited to submit a full application. Successful Investigators received a development grant of a maximum of $15,000 per applicant per country. The total amount awarded for the Canadian collaborations was $114,900. There were 7 full applications received and peer reviewed by an international committee. The first ranked project is approved and the Canadian, New Zealand and Australian components are funded. The 2nd and 3rd ranked project are approved and the Canadian and New Zealand components are funded.
