The Cochrane Collaboration

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international non-profit and independent organization, dedicated to making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare readily available worldwide. It produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions.

The major product of the Collaboration is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews which is published quarterly as part of The Cochrane Library.

The Cochrane systematic reviews are recognized as an important knowledge exchange tool and CIHR has invested in the Canadian Cochrane Network and Centre and the associated activities of the entities based in Canada.

The Knowledge Translation Branch in partnership with the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH), and the CIHR Institutes of Health Services and Policy Research, Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, Gender and Health, Human Development, Child and Youth Health, Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes and Infection and Immunity have recently provided long term funding of the Canadian Cochrane Network and Centre at a rate of $7.8 million over 5 years.
