Dr. Bruce Brandhorst is Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University, which he joined in 1989. He has a BA in Biology from Harvard and a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from University of California, San Diego. After postdoctoral studies at University of Colorado, he held a faculty position in the Biology Department of McGill University for 16 years. While there, he was Co-Director of the summer Embryology Course at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA. His research concerns the development of embryos, particularly those of marine invertebrates. His current research focuses on molecular and cellular interactions in development, metamorphosis, and cell differentiation and the evolution of larvae. He is Associate Editor of Molecular Reproduction and Development.
