  • An inspiring speech from Tony Blair, who despised science as a student, but now is seeing Britain's future in scientific terms.  For Canadian researchers, it's important to know what the international communities are working toward.  We must also get the message out to our leaders that it takes a village to transform Canada to a knowledge based economy.
  • ICRH's announcement on the New Frontiers Program in the area of Clinical Imaging Research

  • Within the next three weeks, the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health will be announcing the launch of a New Frontiers Program in the area of Clinical Imaging Research. The goal of this program is to support a workshop that will bring researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders together to explore and define the gaps between basic imaging research and clinical imaging applications in areas of circulatory and respiratory sciences, including imaging technologies associated with the heart, lung,brain (stroke), blood and blood vessels, critical and intensive care and sleep. In particular, the workshop will focus on the broad question of measuring the impact of existing and novel imaging technologies and imaging biomarkers. The workshop will be a venue for stakeholders to discuss pressing research questions and methodological development in relation to the above focus, as well as to define opportunities, challenges, and possible future directions for a large scale research initiative.
  • CIHR has re-issued a Request for Applications to the Mexico-Canada Joint Health Research Program in Tuberculosis in June.  The Full Application deadline was September 15, 2006. Although the deadline has passed, we are re-opening the competition and will accept full applications by October 27, 2006.  In light of this extension, we would like to inquire if there would be any interest on your part to submit an application.
  • The Global Conference on Heart Health & Disease (October 12-15) will be a weekend to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences as well as the 10th Anniversary of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, St. Boniface Hospital, Faculty of Medicine University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, and to honour Dr. Naranjan Dhalla (Founder of the Academy and world-renowned cardiovascular scientist) on his 70th Birthday.

  • ICRH will provide support or partial support up to $10,000 towards workshops, symposia, conferences, guideline development, forums and special projects which have direct relevance to the Institute's mandate and research and/or knowledge translation priorities.

  • Mexico-Canada Joint Health Research Program in Tuberculosis: Re-launch Announcement
    This initiative is being re-launched on June 15th, 2006. Full Applications are due September 15th, 2006 (applications must be courier stamped by this date).

    Please note that there is no registration process for this cycle.

    Funds Available:

    • The total amount available for this program cycle per annum is $60,000 from CIHR and $60,000 from FOSISS. CIHR will administer funds to Canadian grantees and FOSISS will administer funds to Mexican grantees. This amount may increase if additional funding partners decide to participate.
    • The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is $40,000 per annum for up to two years. The grant will be equally divided between the Canadian and Mexican co-principal investigators (e.g., $20,000 to Canadian investigators and $20,000 to Mexican investigators). The equipment amount is awarded in year one.
    • Up to three new joint research projects may be supported each year.
