Biography - Dr. Norm Campbell

Dr. Norm Campbell is Named Canadian Chair in Hypertension Prevention and Control

Dr. Norm Campbell is currently a Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Calgary. He currently holds or has held several national hypertension leadership positions. He chairs the Steering and Executive Committees for the Canadian Hypertension Education Program (CHEP), a program designed to improve the treatment and control of hypertension in Canada. He also chairs the Outcomes Research Task Force for the hypertension recommendations process. Dr. Campbell is a past president of the Canadian Hypertension Society (CHS), the Canadian Coalition for High Blood Pressure Prevention and Control (now Blood Pressure Canada), and the Canadian Society for Clinical Pharmacology.

Dr. Campbell's acumen covers a broad spectrum of Internal Medicine and he is renowned in and beyond the field of hypertension. He was a past Chair of the Ministers Expert Committee on Drugs and Therapeutics for Alberta Health and Wellness, and he also chaired the Adult Acute Care Sector, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee of the Calgary Regional Health Authority. He has been the Chair of the Research Committee of the Canadian Society for Internal Medicine.

In addition, Dr. Campbell is a former Head of General Medicine at the University of Calgary, a former Chief of General Medicine at the Foothills Hospital and was the first Chief of General Medicine of the Calgary Health Region. He is a recipient of the Young Investigator Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Society for Clinical Pharmacology, the Osler Award and David Sackett Senior Investigator Award from the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine and the Distinguished Achievement Award in Education and Research from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Campbell obtained his MD designation from Memorial University in Newfoundland, where he also did his Internal Medicine residency. He went on to study Clinical Pharmacology at the Mayo Clinic, and is a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension (American Society of Hypertension). Dr. Campbell has over 140 peer-reviewed publications.
