Grants - Web Forms "Registration" Phase Instructions

Applicant Registration provides CIHR with the basic information needed to identify in advance a peer review committee and potential reviewers, which leads to a more effective peer review process. On-line applicants do not need to re-enter the information in the case of future applications.

Note that:

  • Registration is required for each competition even if the application is a resubmission.
  • Except for the name of the Nominated Principal Applicant, the Project Title and the suggested Committee, the information may be revised in the subsequent full application.
  • Some sections of the Research Module for Registration are program-specific. Read headings carefully.

Number of copies: 2 copies of registration and appendices (1 original, 1 copy).

Registration Process

  1. Review the CIHR Guidelines for Grant Programs and the Current Funding Opportunities.
  2. Read the following Guidelines for the Completion of the Modules:
  3. Print and read the registration form [ PDF (244 KB) | Help ] to familiarize yourself with the registration requirements.
  4. Have your PIN ready.
  5. Complete the registration pages of  the Research Module - [Web forms], which includes:
    • the Applicant Consent form;
    • pages 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7;
    • the Summary of Research Proposal, by selecting the "Registration Pages Only" print option.
  6. Complete and print the registration pages of the Common CV, which includes pages 1 and 2, by selecting "Finalize and Submit" and then "Registration CV."

  8. Send, by courier, 2 copies (1 original, 1 copy) of the registration package to:

Acknowledgement and application numbers

An application number will be sent by e-mail to the Nominated Principal Applicant within 2 weeks after the registration deadline date. If, within two-weeks of registration, an email of Acknowledgement from CIHR has not been received, it is the responsibility of the applicant to contact CIHR. Each application number will be unique to the application in that competition. If, after registering, an applicant decides to defer or cancel submission of the full application, CIHR should be notified of the withdrawn application(s) in writing. A list of registrants for a competition will be made available to the Research Grants Office at the Nominated Principal Applicant's institution.
