Dr. Williams is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, Canada and the Department of Philosophy, Carleton University, Ottawa. From 2003-2006 he was Director of Ethics for the World Medical Association (WMA). Previously he was Director of Ethics for the Canadian Medical Association for 12 years. He is a Collaborator on the Strengthening the Capacity of Research Ethics Committees in Africa project and a Member of the Advisory Board, Training and Resources in Research Ethics Evaluation for Africa (TRREE for Africa) project, and was an Observer on the Networking for Ethics on Biomedical Research in Africa project (2005-6). He is also a Member of the UNESCO Advisory Expert Commission for the Teaching of Ethics and the Ethics Review Committee of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation. He is the author, co-author or editor of nine books, including Canadian Physicians and Euthanasia (1993), Bioethics in Canada (1994), Christian Perspectives on Bioethics (1997), the World Medical Association Medical Ethics Manual (2005) and the FDI International Dental Federation Dental Ethics Manual (2007), and over 200 articles and reviews.
