Dr. Laura ShannerLaura Shanner earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy-Bioethics from Georgetown University (1994), following training in pre-clinical sciences. She is an Associate Professor at the the School of Public Health and the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre at the University of Alberta, and has held Scholar awards from CIHR and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research for studies in ethical, legal gender and policy issues in reproduction. She has served as an expert consultant to the Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee and multiple provincial and federal health policy bodies, is a former co-chair of the International Network for Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, and has worked in the U.K., Australia and the U.S. as well as Canada.
