Update on the Timeline for the Next Funding Opportunity of the Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research (STIHR)

CIHR is in the midst of an in-depth evaluation of the Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research (STIHR). The evaluation report addresses the key evaluation issues of relevance, success, and effectiveness. It has recently become clear that the final results of the evaluation will be available by September, 2007.

In light of this information, CIHR has decided that it would be optimal to delay the finalization of the funding opportunity to allow time for consideration of the final evaluation results. This will help minimize risk and allow for evidence-based decisions to improve the updated version of the funding opportunity. While the proposed funding start date of April 1, 2009 will not be affected, the proposed timeline for the competition would now be as follows:

December 2007	Opportunity Launched
April 1, 2008	Letter of Intent Deadline - Letter of Intent must be courier stamped by this date.
July 1, 2008	Anticipated notification of decision for Letter of Intent
November 17, 2008	Full applications must be courier stamped by this date.
March 2009	Anticipated notification of decision for full applications
April 1, 2009	Anticipated start date.
