Applied Public Health Chairs
July 2007 Competition Results
The Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) in partnership with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the Centre de recherché en prevention de l'obésité are pleased to announce the results of the Applied Public Health Chair competition.
The objective of this initiative is to:
- Support high quality and focused programs of policy and program intervention research of national relevance to public health
- Foster formal linkages with the public health system to support the timely and effective application of research into policies, programs and practice.
- Support Canadian universities to develop graduate and continuous education programs in public health
- Stimulate innovative approaches in public health intervention research, mentorship, education and knowledge translation
- Educate and mentor the current and next generation of public health researchers (trainees, post-graduate students and junior faculty), practitioners and policy makers.
A total of 38 Letters of Intent were submitted to this competition and 24 of those were invited to submit a full application. A total of 21 full applications were received for this competition. These applications were reviewed by the CIHR Applied Public Health Chair committee in September 2007. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the IPPH and its partner are proud to announce the funding of 15 Applied Public Health Chairs.
