Dr. Judy Birdsell

Dr. Judy Birdsell is Principal of On Management Health Group, a company which consults across Canada to organizations in the health care, health research and voluntary sectors. She has extensive experience in research policy and research utilization gained in both volunteer and professional roles. She has a long standing interest and involvement in policy and programs related to research utilization, both within the cancer field and more generally. This interest is maintained by active involvement with both research producing and using organizations, including collaboration on peer reviewed research projects in research utilization funded by AHFMR and CIHR.
Judy has made a life long contribution to the non-profit sector with a focus on research, health promotion and seniors housing. She had held over 20 leadership positions in organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute of Canada, the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Initiative and the Stem Cell Network, a research network in the Networks of Centres of Excellence program. She is a Past President of the Canadian Cancer Society and was inaugural chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Initiative from 1998-2000. She chaired the Board of the Stem Cell Network from 2001 to 2005 and is currently Chair of the Board of the MCF Housing for Seniors that provides affordable housing for seniors living in Calgary. Her work in the health voluntary sector was recognized by the awarding of a Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in 1992, an Honorary Life Membership in the Canadian Cancer Society in 2000 and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003.
