Cancer can strike anyone, but where it strikes and how it affects your life may depend on whether you're a man or a woman. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men; however the limitations of current diagnostic tests often lead to men undergoing invasive treatments they don't need. Ovarian cancer is also difficult to detect, and many women do not find out they have the disease until it is too late. CIHR-funded researchers are working hard to develop newer, more accurate diagnostic tests to help combat these devastating cancers.
Over the next month, CIHR will be highlighting some of the latest research on detecting and treating ovarian cancer in women and prostate cancer in men.
