HIV/AIDS Population Health and Health Services (Centres for Population Health and Health Services Research Development in HIV/AIDS): Letter of Intent Results
The CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health is pleased to announce the results of the Letter of Intent review for the "HIV/AIDS Population Health and Health Services" funding opportunity, offered under the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada. As one of four federal partners under the Federal Initiative, CIHR-III administers the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative and funds meritorious research grants and personnel awards in strategic areas of HIV/AIDS research. In keeping with the intent of the Federal Initiative, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative promotes Canadian research, which increases our understanding of the virus, the epidemic and effective responses.
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to enable the development of an integrated network of centres in Canada specializing in HIV/AIDS health services and policy research and research on the social, cultural and environmental determinants affecting the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It is expected that the Centres for Population Health and Health Services Research Development in HIV/AIDS will mobilize research talent and increase the productivity and impact of research in these areas by providing core infrastructure funding for multidisciplinary teams of researchers and their stakeholders. Support for the Centres is intended to foster the development of integrated programs of research, capacity building and knowledge translation leading to improved services, increased resilience and decreased vulnerability to HIV.
A total of 9 Letters of Intent (LOIs) were received, of which 5 were invited to submit a full application for the December 15, 2008 deadline date.
