IHSPR Awards - Deadline extended to January 16, 2009

New! IHSPR Article of the Year Award

The new IHSPR Article of the Year Award is intended to recognize published research that has significantly contributed to the advancement of the field of health services and policy research in Canada. There are two award categories:

  1. Research that has had a clear impact or potential impact on policy or practice
  2. Research that breaks ground in the way health services or policy research is conducted

Who can apply: Article nominations and self-nominations are invited from the health services and policy research and decision-maker communities
The award: The lead author on the top article from each of the two categories will receive an Article of the Year Award ($5000); a feature at a special concurrent session at the 2009 Canadian Association of Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) Conference; and a feature on IHSPR's website and newsletter.
Application deadline: Extended to January 16, 2009

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award recognizes the research excellence and knowledge translation (KT) initiatives of graduate students and post-doctoral Fellows studying in the area of health services and policy research.
Who can apply: Canadian and non-Canadian graduate students (MA, MSc, PhD) and post-doctoral Fellows studying in the field of health services and policy research at a Canadian institution
The award: Five students will receive a Rising Star Award ($1,000); a spot in a concurrent session at the 2009 Canadian Association of Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) conference to present their Rising Star research (and travel support up to a maximum value to attend CAHSPR); and profile on IHSPR's website.
Application deadline: Extended to January 16, 2009

Community Events and News

CAHSPR 2009 Conference: Call for Abstracts Deadline January 12, 2009. The Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) invites you to submit an abstract for the 2009 Annual CAHSPR Conference held on May 11-14, 2009 in Calgary, Alberta. Researchers, decision makers, and students are encouraged to submit abstracts for panel, oral or poster presentations that contribute new insights about health services, systems, policy and politics. Abstracts can only be submitted on-line.

Fellowship Opportunity: Fellowship in Health Policy, Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis, McMaster University. Deadline February 15, 2009. For more information visit CHEPA's website.

University of Toronto Department of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation (HPME) Seminar Series: "Hot Topics in Health Policy" Next session: January 28, 2009. "The Inconvenient Economic Truth: Benefits Forgone as an Input to Economic Evaluation and Implications for Decision-Making" featuring Steve Birch, Professor of Economics, McMaster University.
