Research Profile February 2009 - Getting to the heart of the matter

Getting to the heart of the matter

The human heart is a complex thing, and not just when it comes to romance. Even though heart disease kills more Canadians than any other type of illness, there is still much to learn about why this organ breaks down and how we can fix it.

CIHR-funded researchers across the country are studying the many factors associated with heart disease, from sleep apnea to depression. They're also looking for better ways to treat heart failure, both in the ER and outside of the hospital.
