Introducing the new CIHR Funding Decisions Database

(2009-01-30) The posting of CIHR's funding decisions is a significant moment for CIHR and for the research community; this represents the launch of exciting and promising health research projects that will generate new knowledge, new perspectives and, ultimately, improved health for Canadians. With CIHR's increased emphasis on partnerships, knowledge translation and collaboration with the end-users of research, we expect that more and more stakeholders will also begin to share the anticipation and excitement around these decisions. In response to requests to offer more searching capabilities of CIHR's funding decisions, CIHR is pleased to announce the launch of the CIHR Funding Decisions Database.

Starting with the January 2009 posting of funding decisions, this database will:

  • give researchers and research administrators a search engine to find approved funding decisions of interest. You will be able to search approved decisions by research subject, by investigator, by location (where the research is being conducted, for example, country, region, research institution), by program, by Institute or theme (e.g., Biomedical, Clinical, Health systems services, and Social, cultural, environmental and population health), and by partners; and
  • provide more information on the research project such as lay abstracts.

Please note the funding decisions posted prior to January 2009 will not be found in the new CIHR Funding Decisions Database. Prior results can be found in the "Funding Decisions Notifications" section of CIHR's website.

The difference between the new CIHR Funding Decisions Database and the existing CIHR Funded Research Database is that the former provides a snapshot of funding decisions the day they were posted, whereas the latter provides dynamic information on the research project once it has received its funding.

We are interested in your feedback and suggestions on the usefulness of this database and on how to improve it. Please send your comments to web@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.
