CLSA Competition Winner: Alexandra J Fiocco
Research Institution: University of California (San Francisco)
Supervisor: YAFFE, Kristine
Dr. Fiocco's research goal is to evaluate predictors of variation in cognition in aging. During her Doctoral studies at McGill University, she received extensive training in neuroendocrine research, under the supervision of Dr. Susanne Lupien and Dr. Judes Poirier. Dr. Fiocco is doing her postdoctoral studies at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), under the supervision of Dr. Yaffe. Her current goal is to extend her research questions to the population level. She is analyzing large multi-centered population groups (cohorts) while gaining theoretical knowledge in epidemiological study design through a certificate program at UCSF.
Dr. Fiocco is gaining expertise in epidemiological research in cognitive aging from a rich and productive research environment at UCSF. This fellowship will build on her research focus and will strengthen her research skills, enabling her to develop into an independent investigator. At the completion of her fellowship, Dr. Fiocco hopes to establish herself as an independent Canadian researcher in a multidisciplinary environment with a research focus on healthy cognitive aging and its promotion.
