A Message from IHSPR:
Dear Health Services and Policy Research Community,We are pleased to announce the recent launch of several funding opportunities which may be of interest to our community.
In particular, we'd like to highlight funding opportunities in the priority area of Primary Health Care. As part of an effort to stimulate and promote research and innovation in the area of primary healthcare, we are offering up to $2,200,000 across the following priority announcement funding opportunities:
- Masters Awards
- Doctoral Research Awards
- Fellowship Awards for post-PhDs or post-health professionals
- Catalyst Grants to provide seed money to support research activities in primary and community-based health care within Canada and internationally, which represent the first steps towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities
- Bridge Funding to afford principal investigators who are conducting primary care research an opportunity to resubmit their research proposals without the loss of momentum, staff, or trainees
Additionally, CIHR will be hosting a major primary health care Summit, "Patient-Oriented Primary Care – Scaling Up Innovation " which will take place January 18-20, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario. With this summit, we hope to attract national and international attention to the issue of primary care reform and bring together primary care researchers and decision makers in order to catalyze new collaborations and innovative thinking. Finally, in conjunction with the Institute of Public and Population Health (IPPH) we are launching funding opportunities in "Advancing Theoretical and Methodological Innovations in Health Research " The objective of these grants is to support research that advances the theories, conceptual frameworks, methods, and tools employed in the conduct of high-quality health services and policy research.

The purpose of this Meetings, Planning and Dissemination (MPD) funding opportunity is to support health services and policy research development and knowledge translation and exchange activities that contribute to the advancement of the following strategic research and knowledge exchange priority area:

Partnerships for Health System Improvement (PHSI)
The purpose of PHSI is to support teams of researchers and decision makers interested in conducting applied and policy-relevant health research that is useful to health system managers and/or policy makers and strengthens the Canadian health care system. Successful applicant teams will conduct health services, health systems and policy research projects of up to three years in length in policy-relevant areas deemed to be of priority by Canada's health system decision makers. PHSI welcomes any health services, health systems and policy research questions as long as they respond to decision maker/knowledge user identified needs.
Who should apply: Decision makers and researchers interested in working together to improve health services and the health system are encouraged to apply.
Key dates : The application deadline is November 2, 2009

Meetings, Planning and Dissemination Grant: PHSI
This grant is intended to provide development funds for researchers and/or decision makers to facilitate the formation and development of partnerships with a view to PHSI. It supports planning meetings and other activities that help potential teams of researchers and decision makers in building partnerships and identifying emerging issues and priorities that could potentially be addressed by projects funded in the PHSI competition.
Who should apply: Researchers and/or decision makers who are interested in applying to the full PHSI program.

Alzheimer Society - 2009 Research Program on Care Practice in Cognitive Impairment in Aging
The primary objective of the Program is to better inform nursing care practice and improve the quality of clinical care provided to the cognitively impaired older adult in various care settings, including acute care facilities, long term care institutions, and community care settings such as day programs or people's homes. Health Data Users Conference 2009: Translating Data into Knowledge and Action

Translating data into knowledge and action" is the theme of this year's health data users' conference sponsored by Statistics Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). In the health domain, there is an ever-growing recognition of and demand for the need to provide reliable data to those who can transform it into information that can be used for practice, planning and policy-making. Call for stories: "Pass it on"
CHSRF is launching a new series on initiatives that have produced tangible improvements in Canadian healthcare organizations. The goal is to provide practical ideas that organizations can adapt and use to effect successful change, at all levels. CHSRF is looking for stories on successful initiatives that have been either stimulated or enhanced by evidence, both practical and scientific related to these three themes:
- How are you integrating patients as part of the healthcare team?
- What effective healthcare governance practices have you introduced?
- How are you integrating advanced practice nurses?
