Operating Grant - Alternative Radiopharmaceuticals for Medical Imaging
The primary objective of this funding opportunity is to provide funds to accelerate the development of clinically useful alternatives to the 99mTc radiopharmaceuticals that are currently produced using molybdenum generators derived from nuclear reactors.

Operating Grant - Sleep and Circadian Rhythms
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to further strengthen Canadian and international health research by supporting high-quality, novel, innovative, and inventive investigations that focus on the impacts of sleep disruption and sleep loss (due to Sleep Disruption Behaviour (SDB), insomnia, Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), circadian disorders or a combination of these conditions) on Canadian's cardiovascular, metabolic, and mental health, as well as their performance, cognition, and safety.

Team Grant - Sleep and Circadian Rhythms
The objective of this funding opportunity is to strengthen Canadian and international health research by supporting teams of talented and experienced researchers conducting high-quality research and providing superior research training and mentorship in the area of Sleep and Circadian Rhythms. The program emphasis is on the production of new knowledge, and the translation of research findings into improvements in the health of populations and health care systems.

Emerging Team Grant - Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine (2009-2010)
Part of CIHR's mandate is to promote research that addresses Nanotechnology Applied to Health (Nanomedicine), Stem Cells, Tissue Engineering, and Rehabilitation Sciences. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to further strengthen multi-disciplinary research approaches to regenerative medicine and nanomedicine by supporting truly innovative and leading edge multi-disciplinary research directed against key health research problems. It is expected that this targeted investment will lead to the long-term goal of developing innovative and socially-validated treatment approaches based on the science of regenerative medicine and nanomedicine that will ultimately result in improved quality of life for individuals, their families, and populations.

Other - Institute Community Support Grants and Awards (2009-2010)
The Institute Community Support Program is for community development to provide support grants and awards to individuals and organizations within their respective communities to be used for:

  • Supporting organizations and activities whose goal is consistent with the Institute's and CIHR's vision, mandate and strategic directions;
  • Providing grants or awards in aid of research and knowledge translation activities where the circumstances fall outside CIHR's other programs.

Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses
Research Grant
The purpose of this grant is to provide 'seed money' for research projects pertaining to cardiovascular nursing in Canada.

Canadian Society of Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology
CSATVB New Investigator GRANT-IN-AID (NIGIA)
The Society has established a CSATVB New Investigator Grants-in-Aid ($10,000), in order to promote the research of new scientists in the area of atherosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology. This grant is to be considered as seed money to help awardees attract new funding for their research programs, e.g., from industry, research institutes, and university departments and faculties. The selection of recipients will be made by a CSATVB committee made up of the Chair of the Grant Committee and two colleagues (appointed by the Education Committee), who will rank the applications.

Heart and Stroke Foundation
Approximately $28 million is provided annually through provincial Heart and Stroke Foundations to support research operating costs through Grants-in-Aid. These costs may include laboratory supplies, technicians, and some equipment.
Research is supported across the four health research themes:

  1. basic biomedical
  2. clinical
  3. health services and health systems
  4. health of populations

Applications are accepted annually on September 1.

Jump Start Resuscitation
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the CIHR Institute Circulatory and Respiratory Health are pleased to launch a new Personnel Award program, Jump Start Resuscitation.

The aim of this strategic initiative is to build greater capacity for resuscitation research in Canada and to support the next generation of researchers who will contribute to advancing knowledge and improving the quality of patient care and patient outcomes in this important area.

Master's Studentships, Doctoral Research Awards, Research Fellowships, and Research Scholarships are available.

Announcement of decisions: May 2010
Anticipated start date: July 1, 2010

Personnel Support Program
The Heart and Stroke Foundation supports the development of researchers across the research career spectrum from doctoral students to career investigators.

Personnel awards are funded nationally through the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. More information on these programs can be found on their Website.
