CIHR Café ScientifiqueIt takes a city to raise a child

Wednesday, September 16, 2009, 5 p.m.
Leander Boat Club

50 Leander Dr., Hamilton, Ontario

Whether you realize it or not, you are not raising your child on your own. Children are shaped by their families, neighbourhoods, schools, communities and cities. Each of these social contexts can have a profound impact on who children and young adults grow up to be. What do we know about the effects of these social contexts on development? How can we use this knowledge to prevent or reduce emotional, behavioural and learning problems?

To truly make Hamilton the "best place to raise a child", we need to understand how a city and its resources affect children in the long term. Learn about some of the exciting research being carried out by scientists at the international forefront of this very important field.

Space is limited, so please RSVP: IHDCYH-IDSEA@cihr-irsc.gc.ca
