Management of Peer Review

Peer Review is at the center of CIHR's funding programs. The processes and policies governing Peer Review are constantly evaluated and revised to ensure that best practices are followed.

Science Council (SC)

SC develops, implements, and reports on CIHR's research and knowledge translation strategy, in accordance with the CIHR Act and the overarching strategic directions set out by Governing Council. This includes approving funding for all research and knowledge translation initiatives.

Subcommittee on Performance Measurement (SPM)

SPM provides recommendations to SC with respect to the development, implementation and evaluation of coherent performance measurement and evaluation systems across CIHR. SPM also provides advice and recommendations on the performance and evaluation of the peer review process and related reforms.

Subcommittee on Planning and Priorities (SPP)

SPP provides recommendations to SC with respect to the effective development of strategies, policies and implementation plans in order to achieve CIHR's mandate and strategic directions. SPP also provides advice and recommendations on policies and frameworks with respect to peer review and related reforms.

Peer Review Management (PRM) Unit

The PRM Unit is responsible for managing the Peer Review process. It receives guidance from SC through SPM and SPP as well as through consultation with internal and external stakeholders. The PRM Unit develops and communicates policies regulating the Peer Review Process at CIHR and oversees the logistics of organizing peer review meetings.
