(2009-09-16) The 2009 version of the Tri-Agency Financial Administration Guide was published on
NSERC's website on Friday, September 11, 2009.
Please make note of the following policy changes:
1. Extension Period for Use of Funds Beyond Grant Period
No requests for extensions beyond the automatic one-year extension will be considered if the Institution Paid has not submitted a Form 300 for each period of the grant ending March 31. Before approving a request for an extension beyond the one-year automatic extension, contact Nicole Lisk in the CIHR Finance Division to determine whether she has received a Form 300 for each period of the grant ending March 31.
2. Maternity, Parental, Medical or Family Medical Leave for Grantees
Nominated Principal Applicants on grants may now request:
- an extension of the term of their current grant(s) for up to two years (as opposed to up to one year), provided that there is only one Principal Applicant (i.e., only the Nominated Principal Applicant, no other Principal Applicants) on the grant;
- an amount to cover the extended leave of absence for up to one year (as opposed to up to six months), at a level up to, but not exceeding the current amount, provided that there is only one Principal Applicant (i.e., only the Nominated Principal Applicant, no other Principal Applicants) on the grant.
3. Monthly parking fees for vehicles specifically required for field work
Monthly parking fees for vehicles specifically required for field work are still eligible expenses under grants; however, these expenses are now limited to only the month(s) when field work was conducted.
Other Changes:
- Additional examples of eligible and non-eligible expenses for supplies have been added;
- Process-based information (i.e., documents required for maternity, parental, medical or family medical leave for grantees, etc.) was removed. This information will now be accessible via a link in the relevant section of the Guide.
