GILL, Dawn P
Title: Predicting the Rate of Functional Decline in Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Dementia, and Dementia with Lewy Bodies
Research Institution: University of Washington (Seattle)
Supervisors: KUKULL, Walter A; KOEPSELL, Thomas D

In April 2008, Dr. Gill completed her Ph.D. with Dr. Mark Speechley in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Western Ontario. Her doctoral research examined falls and physical activity in older adults. Since June 2008, she has been working as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Walter Kukull and Dr. Thomas Koepsell at the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (University of Washington), where she has been working on research examining functional decline and dementia. Her project uses information that has been collected by 29 Alzheimer's Disease Centers located across the United States and maintained in a large research database by the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center.

Dr. Gill's ultimate career goal is to obtain a faculty position involving aging research at a Canadian university. This fellowship has provided her with the opportunity to continue working as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington, where she will gain knowledge and experience in an environment that is rich in resources and opportunities for trainees. This will place her in a position to establish my own independent research program in Canada in the future.
