- relevant to the health of Canadians at risk of cancer
- relevant to the development of cancer research capacity in Canada
- multidisciplinary and/or multi-institutional
- cross-cutting (involving more than one CIHR supported types of research*)
- multisectorial (involving universities, NGOs, governments, the private sector, etc.desirable but not necessary)
