Peer Review Committees and Mandates - New Investigators

A New Investigator is defined as a researcher who has held a full time research appointment for a period of 0 to 60 months as of the September competition deadline.

Allied Health Professionals (AHP)

Reviews New Investigator Salary Award applications from licensed Allied Health Professionals, (who may or may not hold a PhD degree) and non-licensed Allied Health Professionals who do not hold a PhD degree, to assess promise of attaining competence as an independent investigator in biomedical, clinical, health systems and services, and/or population and public health research. The evaluation focuses on the applicant's track record, research plan and environment/support.

Health Professional Awards (HPA)

Reviews New Investigator Salary Award applications from licensed Health Professionals (medical doctors (MD), doctors of veterinary medicine (DVM) and doctors of dental science (DDS)), who may or may not hold a PhD degree, and non-licensed Health Professionals who do not hold a PhD degree, to assess promise of attaining competence as an independent investigator in biomedical and/or clinical research. The evaluation focuses on the applicant's track record, research plan and environment/support.

Health Research Salary A (HSA)

Reviews New Investigator Salary Award applications from PhD holders, Health Professionals (medical doctors (MD), doctors of veterinary medicine (DVM) and doctors of dental science (DDS)) who may or may not hold a PhD degree, and non-licensed allied health professionals who hold a PhD degree, to assess promise of attaining competence as an independent investigator in health systems and services, and/or population and public health research. The evaluation focuses on the applicant's track record, research plan and environment/support.

New Investigators A and B (NIA and NIB)

Reviews New Investigator Salary Award applications from PhD holders, non-licensed Health Professionals (Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Doctor of Dental Science (DDS)) who hold a PhD degree or non-licensed Allied Health Professionals who hold a PhD degree, who are within 0 to 24 months of their first independent research appointment, to assess promise of attaining competence as an independent investigator in biomedical and/or clinical research. The evaluation focuses on the applicant's track record, research plan and environment/support.

New Investigators C (NIC)

Reviews New Investigator Salary Award applications from PhD holders, non-licensed Health Professionals (Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Doctor of Dental Science (DDS)) who hold a PhD degree or non-licensed Allied Health Professionals who hold a PhD degree, who are within 24 to 60 months of their first independent research appointment, to assess promise of attaining competence as an independent investigator in biomedical and/or clinical research. The evaluation focuses on the applicant's track record, research plan and environment/support.
