1. a) Funding Opportunities Promoting IA Priority Areas

Patient/Client Safety in Home Care in Canada - Request for Applications

To help identify the scope of the patient safety challenge in home care, the Canadian Patient Safety Institute has partnered with other organizations - including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Aging (IA), Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR), and Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH); The Change Foundation; and the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) - who are committed to supporting research that generates new knowledge and that contributes to improving the safety of home care services for Canadian home care clients.
As a collaborative initiative, the partners are pleased to announce the following Request for Applications: "Patient/Client Safety in Home Care in Canada" on the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) website. The application deadline is April 8th, 2010.

1. b) Funding Opportunities under the Mobility in Aging Initiative

Reminder: Operating Grant - Demonstration Projects in Mobility in Aging (final round)

The purpose of the "Demonstration Projects in Mobility in Aging" funding opportunity is to enhance the capacity of knowledge-users to apply research evidence to their decisions on approaches -- products, programs, services, and health system models -- that contribute to improved Mobility in Aging. The amount awarded for a single grant will typically range between $50,000 to $200,000 per annum for terms between 1 and 3 years. The registration deadline is March 1st, 2010.

Studentship

A Studentship funding opportunity in mobility, musculoskeletal health and arthritis across the lifespan, promoting advancement of research to action to address the intrinsic and extrinsic challenges associated with mobility in aging will be launched shortly. The maximum amount awarded for a single award is $4,950 for up to 3 months. The application deadline is March 15th, 2010.

1. c) Funding Opportunities Promoting Exchange and Research to Action

Reminder: Betty Havens Award for Knowledge Translation in Aging

Through the Betty Havens Award for Knowledge Translation in Aging, IA will recognize individual(s), team(s) or organization(s) that have advanced the translation of research in aging at a local or regional level. The maximum amount awarded for a single one-year award is $50,000 to recognize impact at the local or regional level in research on aging. The application deadline is May 3rd, 2010.

CIHR Partnership Award

The CIHR Partnership Award recognizes partnerships between organizations that exemplify excellence by bringing health research communities together to create innovative approaches to research, develop research agendas that are responsive to the health needs of Canadians and/or accelerate the translation of knowledge for the benefit of Canadians. The emphasis of the award is on innovative cross-sectoral partnerships between organizations that promote excellence. The winning organization will receive a $25,000 award in the form of a one-year research grant, to be used by the awardee(s) to advance the research or knowledge translation activities of the partnership. The nomination deadline is April 1st, 2010.

2010 Summer Program in Aging (SPA)
June 13-17, 2010

We invite applications from trainees in research in aging at the Master's, Doctoral and Postdoctoral levels, and those doing post-graduate clinical training that includes a program of research in aging, to apply for the 2010 Summer Program in Aging (SPA) to be held in partnership with the Alberta Centre on Aging. The application process is posted on the SPA website. The application deadline is March 15th, 2010.
