Childcare: a tool to fight poverty?

Long seen as a staple of early childhood services, childcare services in recent years have been the target of much criticism. Critics feel they only benefit affluent families, are too expensive to taxpayers and can even have negative effects on children's behaviour.
What is it really? Are subsidized childcare services still a sound social policy for fostering children's health and development and in particular children of poor families? To what extent can they help fight against poverty and marginalization?
Cafés Scientifiques offer an opportunity to bring together various stakeholders, such as researchers and community members for a lively discussion with the audience. Come out and bring your opinion!
