CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative Institute Community Support (ICS) Program (2016‑17)

The ICS Program is designed to foster community development by providing grants and awards to individuals and organizations for the purposes of:

  • Enabling research and knowledge translation activities where the circumstances fall outside of CIHR's current suite of funding programs.
  • Supporting individuals and organizations whose goals are consistent with CIHR and its Institutes' vision, mandate and strategic directions.

The ICS Program is not intended to support the direct cost of research (e.g., pilot projects, feasibility studies or operating grants), principal and co-investigator salaries or research equipment.

CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative Travel Awards

Through the ICS program, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative will provide funding to applicants, including knowledge users and community-based researchers, requesting support to travel to present their own research (i.e., keynote/panel presenter, poster, workshop, etc.) at Canadian or international conferences or symposia that are determined to be relevant to its mandate and/or the strategic research areas outlined within the 2015‑2020 HIV/AIDS Research Initiative Strategic Plan.

There are two competitions per year, launched in June and December. Please visit the CIHR Funding Opportunities Database at those times for details on the funding opportunity (e.g. application deadline, application instructions, etc).

CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative Planning and Dissemination Grants

Through the ICS program, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative will provide funding for applications that have a primary focus on HIV/AIDS. The Initiative promotes Canadian research and builds research capacity in order to increase our understanding of the virus, the epidemic and effective responses. The CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative supports Knowledge Translation (KT) activities and the uptake of research findings related to HIV/AIDS. Through this funding opportunity, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative encourages applications that are aligned with the strategic research areas outlined within the 2015-2020 HIV/AIDS Research Initiative Strategic Plan. This includes activities that are responsive to the goals of the CIHR HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research (CBR) Program. The CIHR HIV/AIDS CBR Program encourages applications that are relevant to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

There are two competitions per year, launched in June and December. Please visit the CIHR Funding Opportunities Database at those times for details on the funding opportunity (e.g. application deadline, application instructions, etc).
