The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program

(2011-09-22) Applications are now being accepted for the 2011-2012 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships competition.

These prestigious two-year fellowships, worth $70,000 per year, are open to both Canadian and international researchers who have recently completed a PhD, PhD-equivalent, or health professional degree. Seventy fellowships will be awarded each year.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is unique in its emphasis on the synergy between applicants and research institutions.

Applicants have already demonstrated exceptional research results, are recognized as emerging leaders in their field and have the potential to launch an international-level, research-intensive career. Only the highest-level postdoctoral researchers will be considered for this award.

Research institutions hosting these applicants are able to demonstrate their commitment to the applicant's success through synergy with institutional research priorities, a supportive research environment and professional development opportunities.

Applicants for a Banting postdoctoral fellowship must apply in close collaboration with the university or other eligible research institution at which they would hold the fellowship.

Successful applicants for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program will be selected on the basis of three criteria:

  • research excellence and leadership in their area of expertise or research;
  • quality of the applicant's proposed research program; and
  • institutional commitment and demonstrated synergy between applicant and institutional strategic priorities.

All applicants, without exception, must submit their completed applications by the program deadline of November 2, 2011, 8:00 pm ET. This includes input from your host institution and all referee letters.

Applications can be submitted electronically via ResearchNet.
