Ottawa (January 11, 2012) – Most of us have taken antibiotics at some point, perhaps to treat a sinus infection, or perhaps a child's ear infection. At the time, it probably seemed like a minor treatment for a minor illness but the over prescription and overuse of antibiotics have caused them to become a victim of their own success.

Antibiotics, such as penicillin, are one of the greatest medical advancements however many bacteria have developed a resistance to antibiotics, resulting in the creation of superbugs – bacteria that are resistant to one or more antibiotic.
