Royal Society of Canada inducts Dr. Alain Beaudet and Dr. Marc Ouellette as Fellows
On November 17, 2012, Dr. Alain Beaudet, CIHR’s President, and Dr. Marc Ouellette, Scientific Director of CIHR’s Institute of Infection and Immunity, were inducted as Fellows of the Division of Health Sciences in the Royal Society of Canada’s Academy of Science. Established in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) recognizes Canada’s leading intellectuals, scholars, researchers and artists in three different academies: Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, and mobilizes them to advance knowledge, as well as encourage integrated interdisciplinary understanding of issues that are critical to Canadians. Being inducted as a Fellow in RSC is considered to be the highest honour a scholar can achieve in the Arts, Humanities and Sciences.The RSC recognizes Dr. Beaudet’s research efforts that shed new light on mechanisms underlying neuronal communication and his pioneering proposal that non-synaptic neurotransmission exists in the brain. He is also applauded for his visionary and extraordinary leadership skills as a health research administrator. The RSC recognizes Dr. Ouellette for his discoveries related to antimicrobial resistance as well as his groundbreaking use of genomic technologies in the study of Leishmania and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
