Barbara von Tigerstrom, PhD

Dr. Barbara von Tigerstrom has been a member of faculty at the College of Law since December 2005. Previously she worked at the Supreme Court of Canada, the University of Alberta Health Law Institute, and the University of Canterbury School of Law. She holds a PhD in law from the University of Cambridge. Her main areas of teaching and research are health law, public health law and policy, pharmaceutical regulation, administrative law and international law.
Her current research focuses on legal issues in chronic disease prevention and the regulation of drugs and medical devices. She was the co-principal investigator of a recently completed project funded by CIHR on the role of law in obesity prevention, and is currently the principal investigator of another project funded by CIHR, the Heart and Stork Foundation, and Rx&D Health Research Foundation on tax measures to encourage children’s physical activity.
Professor Barbara von Tigerstrom has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 CALT Award for Academic Excellence. The Canadian Association of Law Teachers (CALT) Annual Prize for Academic Excellence honours exceptional contribution to research and law teaching by a Canadian law teacher in mid-career.
