Message from the President: IAPH Scientific Director term renewal

2013-12-20

It is with great pleasure that I, along with the CIHR Governing Council, announce the renewal of the term of Dr. Malcolm King, as Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health (IAPH).

Under the leadership of Dr. King, IAPH continues to play an instrumental role in advancing a national health research agenda to improve and promote the health of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada.

During his first term, Dr. King has been a steadfast champion for participatory research and has continued to advocate for Aboriginal health research capacity-building. Driven by the ultimate goal of reducing health inequities and achieving wellness for Aboriginal Peoples, Dr. King has been a strong advocate for increased collaboration with and learning from Aboriginal communities through the application of the “Aboriginal Ways of Knowing” and the “Two-eyed Seeing” models to Aboriginal health research.

Dr. King serves as co-lead of the CIHR Signature Initiative ‘Pathways to Health Equity for Aboriginal Peoples’. He also spearheads CIHR’s continued Indigenous health research collaboration with New Zealand and Australia.

Dr. King's second term commences January 1, 2014 until December 2016. Please join me in congratulating Dr. King.

Sincerely,
Alain Beaudet, MD, PhD
President
