CIHR Scientific Director Dr. Yves Joanette appointed to World Dementia Council

World Dementia Council meets for the first time

The World Dementia Envoy Dennis Gillings, has appointed Dr. Yves Joanette, Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Aging, to the first World Dementia Council. The Council, which met for the first time in London on 30 April 2014, will champion dementia research and development, and unlock investment in countries across the globe including the G7 and OECD (The Organisation for Economic and Co-operation and Development).

The work of the World Dementia Council follows the 2013 G8 dementia summit hosted in London in December, where the countries agreed to work together to double funding for dementia research, increase the number of people involved in clinical trials and to set an ambition to identify a cure or disease-modifying therapy for dementia by 2025.
