Message from the President: IHDCYH Scientific Director Renewal
It is with great pleasure that I, along with the CIHR Governing Council, announce the renewal of the term of Dr. Shoo Lee, as Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH).
Since joining CIHR in 2012, Dr. Lee has been a champion of innovative research, novel partnerships, and a strengthened research community. Under his leadership, IHDCYH has developed and launched initiatives that are addressing the biggest challenges related to reproductive, child and youth health. His own research focuses on improving quality of care and patient outcomes, and he uses this passion to guide IHDCYH’s activities. In addition to leading his own initiatives, Dr. Lee sits on the CIHR Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) working group, and the Institute is a partner on six CIHR Signature Initiatives.
Dr. Lee has been instrumental in positioning Canada as a global leader in the emerging field of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) research. Under his guidance, CIHR launched the Healthy Life Trajectories Initiative (HeLTI), which will enhance our understanding of how intervention through nutrition and lifestyle changes in early life may prevent chronic diseases later in life. HeLTI represents the biggest investment in DOHaD research globally and involves numerous international partners.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Lee and in wishing IHDCYH continued success. Dr. Lee's second term will conclude in December 2019.
