CIHR Grants and Awards Guide Renewal Project

CIHR is in the process of redesigning the Grants and Awards Guide (GAG). The overall aim of this renewal project is to update and reformat the information into a more streamlined, standardized and accessible format, as well as to remove redundant policies that overlap with harmonized Tri-Agency post-award administration guides (i.e., Tri-agency Financial Administration Guide and The Tri-agency Research Training Award Holder’s Guide).

The new Guide will focus on application administration for CIHR grants and awards. The content will include clear roles and responsibilities, high-level requirements that can be applied more flexibly and supporting resources to support common understanding of the requirements. Although the look and feel will be different from the current GAG, no new requirements or restrictions for application administration are anticipated.

Consultations regarding the new Guide have been ongoing since 2016 with a special focus group of members of the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA). Further consultations will take place over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.

CIHR expects the new Guide to take effect in mid-November 2019. To assist with the transition, CIHR will offer information webinars for all interested members of the research community. When available, the dates, times, and registration information for these webinars will be posted on CIHR’s website and disseminated through CIHR’s ACCESS newsletter.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about this renewal project, please contact CIHR support.
