National Indigenous History Month

Message from Dr. Carrie Bourassa

On behalf of CIHR, I would like to wish everyone a happy National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples’ Day on June 21st.

June is a very special month as we come together to celebrate the ceremonies, traditions, cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. This opportunity allows us to learn from Indigenous Peoples and recognize the resilience and strength in our communities.

As Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health, it is an honour and privilege to serve Indigenous communities in Canada in this capacity, and also to support researchers whose work to address Indigenous health inequities throughout Canada.

On June 27, 2019, the CIHR Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health will be launching its new strategic plan for 2019-2024 at the University of Saskatchewan. I want to thank everyone, especially the Elders and community members, who contributed to the plan over the last 2 years. The priorities of IIPH over the next 5 years are determined by the input from Indigenous communities and we thank you for sharing your time, thoughts and energy with us.

Please join me in celebrating and honouring Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Miigwetch, Merci, thank you,

Dr. Carrie Bourassa
