The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) is proud to present its 10-year Institute Research Priority Plan (IRPP), a bold and forward-looking blueprint to reimagine how acute care is conceived and delivered in Canada.

Conditions within ICRH's mandate like sepsis, stroke, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, are among the leading causes of death in Canada. Together, these conditions place a significant burden on the healthcare system, driving some of the highest acute care costs and contributing to hospital admissions that can often be prevented or avoided.

Rooted in scientific excellence, ICRH's new Plan lays the foundation to address this growing challenge through research that drives real-world impact.

To achieve its goals, ICRH strategic priorities focus on reducing disease burden and progression at every stage of the care continuum:

This Plan goes beyond research funding. It supports discovery, interdisciplinary innovation, and the implementation of science to reimagine care before, during and after medical crises.

By harnessing emerging technologies and evidence-informed approaches, ICRH aims to improve not only the health of Canadians, but also the quality and timeliness of the care they receive.
