Message from Dr. Norman Rosenblum: Meet the 4 new INMD IAB members

September is not only back-to-school time, but it is also the time of year when new appointments to CIHR Institute Advisory Boards are announced. I am very pleased to welcome four new members of the INMD Institute Advisory Board (IAB):

  • Sukhinder Cheema, Professor, Memorial University of Newfoundland
  • Elisabeth Fowler, Director of Research, Kidney Foundation of Canada
  • Julie Ho, Associate Professor, University of Manitoba
  • Wally MacNaughton, Professor, University of Calgary

These individuals will contribute their creativity and diversity of experience to the perspectives that they bring to the IAB. I would encourage you to visit the INMD web site to read the IAB member's biographies. I would like to thank all of these talented individuals for volunteering to serve on the IAB, especially Dr. Stephanie Atkinson, for her continuing service as the IAB Chairperson during this transition period of the Institute.

Each IAB is composed of a diverse group of national and international representatives of the public, private and non-profit sectors, including the research community and health practitioners. IABs act in an advisory capacity to Scientific Directors with respect to the full range of Institute activities. These activities include deliberation and evaluation on Institute health research priorities and strategies and implementation plans for engaging the broader research community.

Most recently, I have engaged members of the INMD IAB in the development of a new Strategic Plan which will guide Institute activities and investments starting in 2019. As an initial step, we have engaged INMD partner organizations to seek their input on new emerging opportunities that could benefit from strategic or targeted research investments. I look forward to receiving this input and working collaboratively with members of the IAB to determine our next steps in engaging our research community and identifying our priorities.

Wishing you all the best for September!

Norman Rosenblum, MD, FRCPC
Scientific Director, CIHR-INMD
