Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
January 2020

In December 2019, CIHR pre-announced the launch of a new Health Research Training Platform (HRTP) Pilot. I am very pleased that INMD is collaborating in this pilot; development of a vibrant human resource pipeline is critical to the vitality of Canadian health research. As many of you know, I have been focused on training and career development for many years, as I have played a leadership role in institutional and national training programs. Quite beyond my own personal passions, many INMD partner organizations and researchers view training and career development as a priority and have raised this with me over the past 2 years in my capacity as the INMD Scientific Director.

With the HRTP Pilot, CIHR will support the development of integrated training and mentoring environments that will position health research trainees and early career researchers (ECRs) for career success. This Pilot recognizes the need to support the development of Research Leaders of Tomorrow by equipping trainees and ECRs with the experiences and skills needed to lead high-impact, interdisciplinary health research careers in a rapidly evolving research landscape.

I would encourage all individuals and organizations interested in this initiative to consider some key factors for the success of training programs that have been identified in the literature (see my August 2018 SD Message), as well as opportunities for collaboration with partner organizations with a shared interest in training and career development.

The anticipated competition timelines are provided in the pre-announcement. Please stay tuned to ResearchNet and the INMD newsletter for more information.

With best wishes for a happy and productive New Year!

Norman Rosenblum, MD, FRCPC
Scientific Director, CIHR-INMD
