Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
February 2020

I am pleased to join partners and collaborating CIHR Institutes in announcing the launch of the Team Grants in Diabetes Mechanisms and Translational Solutions, the 4th component of CIHR’s 100 Years of Insulin: Accelerating Canadian Discoveries to Defeat Diabetes Initiative. The Team Grants in Diabetes Mechanisms and Translational Solutions will support multi-disciplinary research to better understand the underlying causes and pathophysiology of diabetes and develop improved prevention and treatment approaches for diabetes. It is important to recognize that such transformational aims cannot be achieved without collaboration and partnership. For the Team Grants in Diabetes Mechanisms and Translational Solutions, CIHR has been fortunate to work with several partner organizations who have generously shared their knowledge and financial support to help fund up to 10 Team Grants ($2M each over 5 years). Working together has deepened our understanding of knowledge gaps and helped to identify priority research areas, and will provide us with an opportunity to increase our collective impact by funding more research. I would like to thank Diabetes Canada, Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), Genome Quebec, JDRF Canada, Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFOC) and Mitacs for their commitment and support of this Initiative. Together we will support transformational diabetes research to improve the lives of Canadians with diabetes, their families and caregivers.
