Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
January 2021

I am very pleased to announce the launch of the CIHR Health Research Training Platform (HRTP) Pilot Program. I know that many of you have been waiting for this announcement, especially those who have been engaged in training and career development over the years. I am a proponent of programmatic approaches to training; a strong and growing body of evidence demonstrates their contribution to interdisciplinarity and boundary crossing, community building, and development of professional identity among both trainees and mentors. Combined with their capacity to develop and host curricula focused on professional development skills, specific scientific content, personal development, mentorship and coaching, training programs provide a unique opportunity to support trainees as they imagine a future in which they can play a vital role in the health research ecosystem.

Consistent with programmatic approaches to training, the HRTP will support the development of integrated training and mentoring environments that will position health research trainees and Early Career Researchers for career success. This is a “pilot”, as CIHR plans to learn from the development and implementation of this funding opportunity for future capacity development program enhancements.

I am very pleased that INMD is collaborating in this initiative to support the development of a vibrant human resource pipeline that will be critical to the vitality of Canadian health research. INMD is contributing funding to support two platforms within the INMD mandate area; each platform will receive approximately $400,000 per year for six years. More details about the eligibility requirements can be found in the funding opportunity on ResearchNet.

I wish you the very best for 2021!

Dr. Norman Rosenblum, MD, FRCPC
