Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
January 2022

January marks the beginning of my second 4-year term as Scientific Director of the CIHR-Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes. I am enthusiastic to begin this new term that will focus on implementing knowledge mobilization activities related to the 100 Years of Insulin initiative, as well as the INMD Strategic Plan. I have already begun this work with the INMD Team and Institute Advisory Board. In December, I had the opportunity to meet with the members of the INMD Institute Advisory Board and representatives from partner organizations, health charities and health professional associations in the INMD mandate areas, to seek input on how to proceed with the implementation of the INMD Strategic Plan. What I found particularly noteworthy, was that there was such a high level of support and enthusiasm for capacity-building and career development among INMD partner organizations. This was an affirmation and endorsement of INMD’s investments and activities in this area and reinforces the importance of our sustained efforts to support and enhance capacity-building and career development with our partners.

When I began in my role of Scientific Director, I never could have predicted or imagined the unprecedented changes that would occur because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to begin the year by recognizing and thanking the health professionals across the country who are caring for patients during this very challenging time. There is much hope for 2022 that we are closer to the end of the pandemic than the start.

Wishing you all a very happy, healthy 2022!

Dr. Norman Rosenblum, MD, FRCPC, FCAHS
Scientific Director
CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes
