Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director

It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Joint 2023 Canadian Digestive Diseases Week™ and Canadian Liver Meeting (CDDW™-CLM) Conference, on March 3-5, 2023, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, jointly hosted by the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) and the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver (CASL). With the increasing prevalence of liver and gastrointestinal diseases in Canada, the CDDW™-CLM, provides a unique Canadian perspective on the research landscape that is much needed. Throughout the conference, I was impressed by the quality of the oral presentations and posters presented by the trainees, and the excellent plenary presentations from leading researchers in these fields.
I was delighted to co-present two INMD Early Career Researcher (ECR) Partnership Prizes to members of the CAG and CASL communities. These Partnership Prizes recognize outstanding contributions in the field by an ECR.
- Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Osborne from the University of British Columbia, recipient of the CIHR-INMD-CAG ECR Partnership Prize.
- Congratulations to Dr. Amine Benmassaoud from McGill University, recipient of the CIHR-INMD-CASL ECR Partnership Prize.
I also would like to congratulate Dr. Marc Bilodeau from the Université de Montréal who was awarded the CLF-CASL Gold Medal Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the advancement of liver health and disease.
Finally, I would like to congratulate my colleague, Dr. John Brumell from the Hospital for Sick Children, recipient of the CAG Research Excellence Award, for his outstanding contributions to the field of gastroenterology.
