CIHR and NSERC renew commitment to innovative research through the Human Frontier Science Program

Canada, through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) has renewed its commitment to the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP). The HFSP is an international program of research that supports interdisciplinary, breakthrough research collaborations between researchers from more than 70 different countries.

CIHR and NSERC are providing a total of $5.2M over the next three years to fund innovative research through HFSP’s research grants and fellowships programs. The research grants program supports cutting-edge projects by bringing together teams of scientists from across the world to collaborate on life sciences research. Meanwhile, the HFSP fellowships support outstanding young researchers to conduct life sciences research in a laboratory in a new country.

Canadian researchers have been very successful in the HFSP since 1990. Among the 2023 awardees of the HFSP research grants and fellowships, six are based in Canada.
