It was a great pleasure to travel to the University of Calgary on December 4-6 for the INMD Institute Advisory Board (IAB) meeting. Thanks to the University of Calgary for their warm welcome, and to the students and trainees who took the time to present their posters and engage with IAB members at the opening Meet & Greet and Poster Session.
Highlights of the meeting included a presentation from Dr. Leah Gramlich and colleagues leading the Diabetes, Obesity and Nutrition Strategic Clinical Network (DON SCN), and lectureships presented by Dr. Dan Muruve, How understanding basic biology can lead to novel therapeutics for kidney diseases and Dr. Charlene Elliott, Food marketing and children’s health: Persuasive power, policy and the potential of media literacy.
The majority of the meeting focused on measuring the impact of research – something that is a challenge for all health research funders. We were fortunate to have Dr. Kathryn Graham from Alberta Innovates Impact Action Lab who set the stage for this discussion. It was a stimulating discussion that has provided guidance for INMD’s future activities in 2024.
